This vibrant plein air study captures a radiant field of native sunflowers at Bluestem Conservation Cemetery in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, just north of Hillsborough. Masses of golden blooms surge across the foreground in thick, energetic brushstrokes, their brightness contrasting with the dark green foliage and the modest farm buildings nestled among trees in the middle distance. Painted beneath a cloud-filled sky, the work celebrates the abundant beauty of native wildflowers and the pastoral character of this conservation landscape.
